MOSAIC reacts to German privatisation block

During its meeting on the 22nd of November in Luxembourg, MOSAIC welcomed the decision of M. Kohler, President of Germany, to suspend the privatisation of air traffic services. GdF's reaction to President privatisation veto

Opposition from a wide variety of stakeholders in aviation, not least of all GdF, the German Trade Union Air Navigation Services increased the public attention given to these intentions and increased awareness of the Federal President of the risk associated with this project. GdF strongly congratulates Mr. Köhler on his decision not to ratify a piece of legislation that is largely disregarding the intent of the constitution in regard to the control and conduct of the public task of Air Traffic Services.

GdF joins MOSAIC and explains why...

GdF believes that cost efficiency, return on investment and market share are factors that must never be allowed to decide the policies and the everyday work philosophy of an ANSP. For years DFS staff has been told that safety is never in question, that it is implicit in ATS. But we don’t believe this anymore, with economic factors as the above so obviously at the forefront of management’s decision-making.

DFS privatisation put on hold

After his initial refusal earlier, President Horst Koehler has definitely vetoed legislation that would have privatised the country’s air traffic control agency DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung). He stated that DFS role in keeping the skies safe should be left in the hands of the state.
